Sometimes shopping is the best therapy but we don’t always have the budget. Thrifting is an awesome alternative and everything is cheap! Thrifting is the act of visiting several thrift shops, second-hand shops, and vintage clothing stores in the hopes of finding cheap and unusual clothing. You can also find treasures beyond clothing, like furniture, shoes, and accessories.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting the most out of thrifting and where to go to seek out cool treasures. What’s more fun than a day out shopping with the girls?

Why You Should Thrift

Obviously a huge reason thrifting is easy to do at any time is because you don’t need much money to do it. You can uncover valuable items that are marked down by a huge margin. When everything is so cheap, there’s more room to purchase more! You can find designer jeans and bags that were once in the hundreds but are now no more than a couple bucks. Even though you’re spending less, there’s definitely the potential to find a diamond in the rough. You and the girls could stumble upon a Dooney and Burke or Louis Vuitton!

Buying from a thrift store also means you’re buying something unique and different. You’ll be rocking a fabulous find that others won’t so easily find.

While you and the girl’s are having fun shopping, you’ll also be giving back. A lot of thrift stores support great causes!

Make Sure You’re Prepared

Before you go, make sure you’re prepared to really rummage through some racks of clothes! If you go with friends, share sizes so you can look out for items for each other.

If you’re planning on going to a couple places, map out where you want to go beforehand.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can change in and out of easily. With any luck, you’ll be trying on a ton of great finds!

Do’s and Don’ts

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure but there are some items that just don’t have a second life. Things like worn out shoes, makeup, and cookware are definitely items you don’t want to pick up.

Do keep your eyes open for designer brands, books, and ceramics and glassware. These items are pricey when new and still just as awesome slightly used.

Here’s a list of Vintage Shops and Thrift Stores your friend group should check out. Happy thrifting!
