Do you and your significant other love Thai food? If so, you must visit Tampa’s infamous Buddhist Thai temple, Wat Mongkolratanaram, for a Thai Sunday Market that can’t be beat. With dozens of food and market vendors, a beautiful setting, and friendly people, there is no better way to start a Sunday.

Wat Mongkolratanaram, or Wat Tampa for short, has been offering this unique Thai Sunday Market to couples for almost thirty years now. Hundreds of people come each Sunday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., to enjoy a tasty brunch and shop Thai ingredients – all of which is done right next to authentic, active Buddhist temple in Thai tradition.

Some of the Thai food items offered include fried bananas, pad thai, curries, papaya salad, various noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, mango sticky rice, Thai tea, and much more. All food is made fresh by the vendors – giving the Thai Sunday Market a reputation of having the best Thai food in Tampa Bay. Although gourmet, the food at Wat Tampa’s Market is very reasonably priced. Most items are $5 or less, making it affordable for all couples. Purchase many items and share with your loved one – an ideal dim sum experience. However, it is very important to note that the food vendors accept cash only.

Make sure you’re prepared for Thai Sunday Market. All proceeds will be donated to the temple.

Once purchasing your food, head over to the picnic tables to enjoy an outdoor meal in the sun, or underneath a live shady oak tree. The setting is extremely romantic, complete with orchids glistening underneath the Florida rays. The unique nature, as well as the Buddhist chanting which can be heard from inside Wat Mongkolratanaram, makes couples feel as if they are in Thailand itself.

Once you and your loved one finish eating, you can choose to purchase many different Thai spices, rice noodles, fruit trees, fresh vegetables, herbs, and other essential Thai food items. This way couples can enjoy real Thai food at home while waiting for next Sunday’s market at Wat Tampa. In addition, the Thai Sunday Market sells exquisite orchids for hard to beat prices.

Lastly, it is recommended that couples arrive before noon in order to get the full experience of The Market. Due to increased popularity, if you arrive later, most vendors may already be out of food. Even if it means an early wake-up call, Wat Tampa is a must-visit for your next date with your significant other.

There is truly nothing else like the Thai Sunday Market in Tampa Bay.
