Pumpkin Spice is in the air which means It’s almost fall! It’s hard to tell because Florida is hot, the leaves don’t change color and there is no snow. The north has many fall activities that, sadly, are not possible to do in the South. However, there are southern versions of some fall activities that you and a date can do to pretend you’re having a date day up north.

Who needs apples when you have Oranges?

Apple picking is a fall staple in the north. In Florida, there are no apple orchards, so apple picking becomes citrus fruit picking! You and your date may not be picking one of the traditional fall fruits of the north, but wandering through a farm and picking fruit off trees will give you the same, or similar, feeling! Where jeans and a flannel shirt for an extra apple-picking feel! (if you can stand the heat!)

Snowman? How about Sandman

Soon it will start to snow in the colder states and snowmen will cover lawns and fields. It may not snow here, but that does not mean you and your date can’t build something like a snowman. Head to the beach with buckets, shovels, sticks, carrots and all other supplies needed to make a snowman! Make sure you take your hat, sunglasses and anything else that your sandman is wearing that is not natural so nothing will pollute the beach after you leave. Or like these cute little guys in the photo, go to a beach restaurant and have a little fun while waiting for your food!

“Watching the leaves change”

Driving around and admiring the changing leaves is one of the northerners favorite fall pastimes. Fun Fact: Northerners call people who visit from the south to look at trees “leaf peepers.” If you can’t afford to visit the changing leaves, take a road trip and view plants in Tampa Bay! Drive around and see what kinds of plants you can see in different parks, take fun photos with the best palm trees you find, or visit a place where you can enjoy the multitude of colorful tropical plants that call Florida home!

No Snow Here! Jet Ski and Waterski instead

In the north, when it gets cold and the snow falls, it’s time for snowmobiling and skiing. You may not be able to do either one in Florida, but luckily Florida has other versions of skiing. Instead of riding a snowmobile, ride a jet ski! Instead of zipping down a mountain on skis, zip across the water on waterskis! You and your date will get the same exhilaration and won’t have to be in freezing weather, wearing three layers to do either one! For extra fall fun, wear a winter hat and scarf during these activities! It will feel more like fall and you’ll get some fun photos!
