From a Vietnamese Banh Mi to Pastrami on rye, who doesn’t love a good sandwich? Nearly everyone grew up lifting the lid of their lunchbox to find this classic preparation of bread, meat and cheese. There’s a sandwich for every situation and every taste so it is no wonder it is a favorite for us all! Here is a list of Tampa’s best Deli’s and Sandwich Shops.

Wrights Gourmet

This café deli has been around since 1963 but don’t let its age fool you. While this spot has been around for forever, guests are greeted by a modern and clean layout complete with chalkboards and ordering straight from the counter. Watch as your sandwich is prepared with fresh sliced meats, homemade spreads, and bucket bread baked in house. Wrights offers deli classics like the Monte Cristo and Grilled Reuben but also serves up their own creations – try the Beef Martni Sandwich!

Datz has earned a (well-deserved) spot on our list of best burgers and also best sandwiches. Their Cuban Sandwich won at the 2021 Cuban Sandwich Fest. The TY’s Two-Fister is also worth trying, made with pastrami, corned beef, Swiss and spicy mustard and marbled rye. Blackened Mahi, the Hansel and Gretel (turkey and Swiss on a pretzel roll), and the Nashville Chicken Doughnut – fried chicken tenders serve on, you guessed it, and doughnut – are not to be overlooked! Datz has locations in Tampa, St. Pete, and Riverview.

Saigon Deli

If you really want to mix up your sandwich game, check out Saigon deli. While this spot is known for over the counter Vietnamese yumminess, it is included on this list because of its killer Banh Mi. Airy Baguette is layered with sour pickled daikon and carrot, crisp cilantro, spicy jalapenos, and house made BBQ pork. It’s a classic done in the best way. And for under $10, it’s a steal!

Swann Ave Market

Located in the heart of south Tampa, this family owned business is genuinely delicious. Vinaigrettes, spreads, and salads are all made from scratch and you really taste the attention to quality. Fresh bread as well as Boars Head sliced meats are utilized to create specialty sandwiches thatll make your taste buds sing. A favorite is the Godzilla Sandwich that includes fresh sesame seared blue fin tuna, seaweed salad, ponzu, cabbage slaw, and a whole slew of other delicious ingredients.

Mr. Dunderbak’s

Willkommen zur Deutschland! Mr. Dunderbak’s offers everything German including a full deli with authentic German meats and cheeses. Pumpernickel bread, liverwurst, Havarti cheese – you name it, Dunderbak’s has it. Try a sandwich of your own creation or one of their Munich inspired speciality sandwiches like the Schnitzel Reuben.
