Wrights Gourmet

This café deli has been around since 1963 but don’t let its age fool you. While this spot has been around for forever, guests are greeted by a modern and clean layout complete with chalkboards and ordering straight from the counter. Watch as your sandwich is prepared with fresh sliced meats, homemade spreads, and bucket bread baked in house. Wrights offers deli classics like the Monte Cristo and Grilled Reuben but also serves up their own creations – try the Beef Martini or Paris Sandwiches.

Saigon Deli

If you really want to mix up your sandwich game, check out Saigon deli. While this spot is known for over the counter Vietnamese yumminess, it is included on this list because of its killer Banh Mi. Airy Baguette is layered with sour pickled daikon and carrot, crisp cilantro, spicy jalapenos, and house made BBQ pork. It’s a classic done in the best way. And for under $10, it’s a steal!

West Tampa Sandwich Shop

Tampa natives are adamant about their Cuban sandwiches. Having arguably The Best Cuban sandwich in town, West Tampa Sandwich Shop has been serving them up over 40 years. Unassuming from the outside, it’s a small, no-frills deli located just west of the Hillsborough River. Try their famous honey Cuban “Obama Sandwich”, which the President raved about during his visit in 2012.

La Segunda

The bread makes the sandwich. Also known for having a killer Cuban sandwich, La Segunda has been around since 1915 serving mile-long loafs of their signature Cuban bread. With a huge variety of sandwiches to choose from including mojo marinated meats (try the Media Noche or Fire Bird) and more traditional fare like the BLT and Cheese Steak, you’re sure to leave satisfied. If they’re not sold out, grab a guava and cheese turnover to enjoy later.

Schiller’s

Willkommen zur Deutschland! Schiller’s has been a South Tampa staple since 1952. Offering everything German including a full deli with authentic German meats and cheeses and even a selection of grocery/pantry items. Pumpernickel bread, liverwurst, Havarti cheese – you name it, Schiller’s has it. Try a sandwich of your own creation or one of their Munich inspired specialty sandwiches like the Reuben-Yorker or Schiller U-Boat.
