There’s just something nostalgic about a trolley ride. Combine that with a historic tour and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

The Museum of History in St. Petersburg offers historic trolley tours that gives locals and visitors the chance to go back in time and learn about the colorful characters who created the city, along with the rich (and hidden) history behind it.

“St. Augustine, Key West, Savannah, all have historic tours, and now, thanks to our partnership with Star Trolley, St. Pete does as well,” said Museum of History Executive Director, Rui Farias. “These tours, while fun for us locals to hop on, will hopefully provide another reason for Florida visitors to explore St. Petersburg.”

What to expect on the historic trolley tours

The tours embark from the Museum of History on The St. Pete Pier, which has been sharing stories of the Sunshine City for 102 years. The 2-hour tours take place on select days throughout the month and explores the tales of the city’s beginnings, from its piers and railroads to its waterfront parks. It also takes riders through its unique neighborhoods – Driftwood, Roser Park, and Old Northeast.

Other historic tours include the tales of Prohibition & Rum Runners, Spaniards and Natives of West St. Pete, Haunted Ghost Tours, a Civil Rights Tour, and an Architectural Tour. All tours are curated by the Museum of History staff and feature a rotating slide show of historic images that are exclusive to the Museum’s historical archives.
