The Tampa Bay area is a beer lover’s paradise. There are dozens of breweries scattered throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, often congregating in areas with tons of fun things to do on date night. One of those areas is the Heights District – comprised of Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and Riverside Heights.

If you and your date love beer, we’ve put together the perfect itinerary for a beer-centric date night in one of Tampa’s trendiest areas. Keep in mind, these options are a bit more spread out and parking can be scarce, so plan to utilize a rideshare service for the day.

Heights District Breweries

Angry Chair

This cozy space is known for some heavy hitting stouts. Special releases have immense demand and the tap list is always on point. The current space is not huge (and neither is the parking lot), but they have plans to move to a much larger space just down the street by Spring 2022.

Southern Brewing & Winery

Take your date to Southern Brewing for a taste of beers you won’t find anywhere else. Part brewery, part homebrew store, Southern does not distribute their beers. Find a comfy spot at the bar, or one of the couches, or head outside to the oversized beer garden to enjoy your brews. Rene’s Mexican Kitchen taco truck is amazing and has a permanent home at Southern if you need to fuel up on your visit. If you’re heading out on a weeknight, Southern offers happy hour pricing from 4-7pm Tuesday through Thursday.

7venth Sun

Originally located in Dunedin, 7venth Sun’s second location offers an even bigger tap room and outdoor seating area. 7venth Sun really shines with the fruity sours, IPAs and other light, delicious and fruity brews. You’ll often find a food truck on site to snag food during your visit. Stop by on a Wednesday for trivia!

The Independent

Not technically a brewery, but The Independent has an impressive enough tap list to warrant inclusion. This small restaurant/beer garden has a huge variety of local, national and international craft beers and a super knowledgeable staff to help you navigate your options. The events calendar is stacked, with everything from chess nights, to live music to special events with well-known breweries from around the world.

Hidden Springs Ale Works

Hidden Springs is your spot if you’re into fruity, funky and truly unique flavor combos (the current tap list has a sweet potato casserole inspired beer, but it’s always changing). I recommend starting with a flight, just to try more of their awesome beers. Check their Facebook page for events like paint nights and succulent workshops.

Garagiste Meadery

Located just around the corner from Hidden Springs you’ll find Garagiste, an amazing small-scale meadery. The tasting room is no frills, but the mead more than makes up for it if you’re a fermented honey enthusiast. The taproom is open Thursday-Sunday with a constantly rotating draft list and a selection of bottles available for purchase.

Ulele Spring Brewery

Known for its amazing riverfront location and incredible food, Ulele is also home to a very impressive brewhouse. Enjoy Ulele’s famed and fruity Wedding Beer lager while taking in the sunset from their ample outdoor dining space. Be sure to try the okra fries and fire grilled oysters while you’re there!

Rooster & the Till

This Seminole Heights staple is perfect if you want a high end touch to cap off your Heights District breweries crawl. The main menu is constantly changing and features a variety of tasty sharables. Kick it up a notch with the chef’s 6-course tasting menu to really get a taste of what Chef Ferrell Alvarez has to offer.

Armature Works

With four full-service restaurants, 11 different food stalls in the market, 2 dessert spots and a coffee shop, there is bound to be something at Armature for you and your date to enjoy! Soak up your day of drinking with quesabirria tacos from Muchachas, or sit down at Oak and Ola for a more refined experience. You have a ton of options here, plus a full service bar with plenty of craft beer options.

The C House

This Seminole Heights spot has an emphasis on three very important things – champagne, charcuterie and cheesecake. The menu is tasty and the vibe both inside and outside is excellent. You’ll often find live music here, along with a delicious lineup of desserts. The C House is a great place to cap off a tour of The Heights area’s breweries.
