Calling all beer lovers: stop what you’re doing and pay attention! Yuengling in Tampa may be opening up a beer-themed hotel in the very near future! Known as “America’s Oldest Brewery” Yuengling has recently gone under some major renovations. Part of their new plan and refurbishment may include a beer garden plus a 150-room hotel, according to Tampa Bay Times!
What is a Beer-Themed Hotel?
Most of these beer-themed hotels are at or adjacent to their brewery counterparts with overnight accommodations. According to VinePair, Dogfish Head opened their 16-room Dogfish Inn in Delaware with BrewDog following suit with their craft-beer hotel opening up in Ohio. Now, luckily for us Tampanians, Yuengling could open the doors to their very own beer-themed hotel.
What’s Next?
The news of a potential beer-themed hotel broke in May within a civic Facebook group known as URBN. A local online news source in Philadelphia called PhillyVoice was one of the first sources to break the news on a grander scale. PhillyVoice says, “there will be an expansion to new space near the company’s brewery, which is located close to USF”.
Allegedly, the hotel will be a “mix-use development”. This means there will be 150+ rooms, a microbrewery, a beer garden, a tasting room, and more. Talk about an upgrade. According to both PhillyVoice and URBN’s original Facebook post, “Yuengling is in the process of rezoning” with a tentative hearing in September. However, Bokors Corner on Facebook stated that the rezoning plan was now set to October 24th as a City of Tampa project, not Unincorporated Hillsborough County.
Are the Rumors True?
Although the rumors are yet to be totally confirmed, both PhillyVoice and the Times quote Wendy Yuengling, the company’s Chief Administrative Officer in a recent statement to WTSP. “We are always looking for ways to engage our loyal fans and re-envision Yuengling. This development will offer visitors an enhanced hospitality experience.” As a result, people are pretty certain this new hotel is in the works and will hopefully be up and running for locals and tourists in the near future.
As the news continues to break about the beer-themed hotel, be sure to check back here for updates! Stay tuned.
