Weekend Date at Gasparilla Music Festival 2021

Music: name a more lovely experience. I’ll wait. From February 25 – 27, 2022, the Gasparilla Music Festival (GMF) returns to Tampa Bay at Curtis Hixon Park. And, for the first time, Tampa’s signature music festival features a full festival experience on Friday night. GMF promises many opportunities for sipping, singing, noshing, and dancing with your sweetheart.

Tickets range from single-day passes for $45 to 2-day passes for $70 or a full 3-day pass for $95. VIP tickets are also available beginning at $125. Presently, no COVID screening measures are in place.

Gasparilla Music Festival 2022 Lineup

Friday, February 25 | Gates open 4pm

GMF takes place in downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park, with gates opening on Friday at 4pm to kick off the weekend.

A three-day festival gives ample opportunity for choosing from a variety of acts. The Black Pumas will make their Tampa Bay debut on Friday, February 25. Local bands performing at Gasparilla Music Festival are showstoppers and, on Friday, Sam E. Hues is no exception.

Date night dancing dreams can be further realized with additional Friday night tunes from GROUPLOVE, Cimafunk, DJ Ku, and more. Or, head to the River Overlook for a Silent Disco at 6:30pm. It’s free with your festival ticket, but you’ll need to provide a photo ID and credit card to check out the headset.

Skip the crowded restaurants on February 14 and instead save your appetite for GMF’s food offerings. Intent on keeping food local, GMF has more than a dozen delicious vendors. Dig into the chicken and waffle sandwich—cooked up by Ella’s Folk Art Café (a Seminole Heights staple). Title sponsor Coppertail Brewing will have plenty of cold beer to help you stay hydrated. Not one to turn down dessert? Cap off your Friday night with a gourmet ice pop from Whatever Pops. With all the Silent Disco dancing, you earned it.

Friday-night-feel-good music in a waterfront park. Does it get better? It does. Cocktails are half off for GMF’s Friday night happy hour from 5 – 7pm.

The advance purchase price for Friday-only tickets is $45.

Local couple Katie + Keith Hughes have attended GMF the past six years. They especially love that festival proceeds support local music programs and helps them discover new bands. Their favorite part of GMF is the Silent Disco—a dance party in a beautiful, outdoor venue.

Saturday, February 26 | Gates Open at 1pm

A good day date might be one of my favorite things. Saturday’s sultry sounds include The Revivalists, Band of Horses, Peach Tree Rascals, and Judyanne Jackson, just to name a few.

Scrumptious food won’t be hard to find. Big Ray’s Fish Camp will be on site with grouper sandwiches and peel and eat shrimp. Cantina Especial’s Tequila Soda is the perfect Saturday sip. Other beverage sponsors include Tito’s and Funky Buddha. There will be water, too; let that Liquid Death H2O bring you life.

Missed the Silent Disco Friday night? Saturday night provides another chance to take part in this silent dance party. Put on a headset and dance to tunes from 3 DJs from 6:30-9:30pm.

Turn GMF into your love’s longest, sweetest jam session. Extend your date into the wee hours by booking a room with GMF partner hotel the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street.

The advance purchase price for Saturday-only tickets is $45. Saturday VIP tickets are also available, and each $125 ticket includes festival entry, air-conditioned bathrooms, and access to VIP tents, viewing areas, and bars.

Sunday, February 27 | Activities begin at 1pm

Sunday at GMF will be especially kid friendly, as Kids Fest returns on February 27. From 1 – 4pm, make sharing the love of music a family affair. Kids 12 and under are free.

Imagination Movers, featured on Disney+, headlines Sunday’s Kids Fest. Interactive elements GMF kids know and love, like the graffiti wall and tie dye station, will return this year. St. Petersburg’s James Museum will facilitate a craft, and The Tampa Metro Youth Orchestra and School of Rock Tampa will also perform. Confetti cannons and toilet roll blasters are sure to light up kids’ faces.

GMF caters to all ages, and there are plenty of kid-friendly food items. From King of the Coop’s chicken tenders baskets to Shadrach’s Fiery Furnace Pizza, all tummies should be happy and full. Music festivals are a good reason for a sugar rush. Kona Ice will serve shaved ice and novelty ice cream. Dough Nation, also serving ice cream, will have their beloved cookie dough on hand.

With plenty of outdoor space for dancing and running, along with a playground, Curtis Hixon Park presents festivalgoers prime real estate for getting all the wiggles out.

On Sunday evening, Trombone Shorty, whose return has been requested, will close out GMF. He’ll play tracks from his latest album, Parking Lot Symphony. Sunday’s songs will include the voices of The Allman Betts Band (southern rock royalty), Mavis Staples (gospel & blues singer), and Pinegrove (twangy indie rock). Plus, much more.

Tampa’s Gasparilla Music Festival is an affordable date option with eclectic tunes and food. The waterfront, outdoor venue sets the stage for your modern romance. Re-entry to the festival is a plus.

The advance purchase price for Sunday-only tickets is $45. VIP tickets are $125.
